In modern times The Watchers have become known as Lords, Elemental Rulers or Guardians of the Elements - Earth, Air, Fire and Water. These Elements are said to be populated by 'Elementals', spirit creatures that organise and direct the energy of that element.
The Watchers may be called upon for protection, for spiritual growth, or simply for help in your endeavours, according to which Watcher can help you best. Whatever request you may send out, always be sure to ask that it be for your highest good and that it harm none.
History
In the beginning the Watchers were considered an ancient race of beings who have evolved past the need for a physical body, they had become light. Some legends say they came from the stars. The belief speaks of four major stars which rule over each one of the cardinal points. It is these stars that are known as The Watchers.
The Watchers were thought of as gods that guarded the heavens and earth. To the Greeks they became the gods of the four winds. The Christians took them over as "guardian angels." The The Hebrews taught that all angels, known to them as Watchers, were ruled by four "higher" angels. They became the "Archangels" to the Cabalists. Many Wicca systems have their own versions of the Watchtowers and Watchers. Some see the Watchers as demi-gods, spiritual teachers, cosmic intelligence or beings composed of light.
- In the North the Earth elementals live in the rocks and soil. They are the keepers of the treasures of the material world, givers of stability and material gain.
- In the East the Air elementals live in the sky, wind and breath. They are the keepers of the treasures of the mental world, holding the keys to knowledge, dreams and wishes, and are protectors of magickal applications.
- In the South the Fire elementals live in the flame. They are the keepers of the treasure of the spiritual world, protectors of the home or business.
- In the West the Water elementals live in the oceans, rivers and lakes. They are the keepers of the emotional world, protectors of the gates of death and karma.
