"Wood Dream of Bearly Breathing"
On Spalted Beech. 1.5 X 3ft
When I first met this piece of wood I immediately saw a bear's head in the shape and spalting in it. It was as if the wood was carrying a bear in it, it was dreaming of being a bear. This is what the pyrography picks out, with the dreamy use of stars and whirls and cloudy patterns.
Another dimension comes into play if the air around the piece is disturbed, say by someone walking past or a breeze from an open window. The feathers in front of the bears nose move, as if the bear is breathing...and what may have appeared to be a static piece comes to life.
The bear fetish carries the energy and meaning of the piece with another life-giving aspect, turquoise & coral on a silver wire.
