About the Artist
A life spent creating in many different mediums lends Janina the skill and passion for producing beautiful and unique art. Every piece created by her is full of meaning - each carries something positive in the objects, words, symbols and materials used. Many pieces tell a story. Through the medium of pyrography on wood Janina is able to make the most of her ample imagination and transforms each piece into a unique and magical project, however simple or complex. Her work is influenced by all aspects of the natural world, and esoteric and indigenous symbolism and belief systems.
About the Raw Materials
Janina uses as much locally sourced wood as possible - from hedging, garden and woodland management projects; woodfairs; a local timber reclaim company and wastage wood from building projects. The English Sycamore and Birch ply blanks she buys are individually handmade and lovingly shaped in a small business' workshop at the bottom of a garden in Yorkshire. This means that she not only has a wide variety of wood to choose from but also has the satisfaction of knowing that local people and projects are supported along the way.
For particular embellishments such as beads, shells and traces on her tribal based pieces, raw materials are sourced abroad, from suppliers that support and sustain self sufficiency amongst indigenous Peoples.
She is always open to buying wood and/or embellishments from sustainable and ethical organisations, and from projects that support the 'small people'.
