I have found a very local source of the most beautiful Ash slices. A local farm has recently had some building work and land management done which has resulted in an old Ash tree being felled...and sawn into great trunk length slices, most of which still have the bark. I now have some of these 12 ft slices at home waiting to become art or signs (or maybe even a huge window cill for our stained glass chapel window...) See below how stunning Anna's Ash is!

My beautiful Loons, "Grandmother Moon" on a 6ft slice of Yew are gradually emerging and the liquid lines of the rich cream and red wood are proving to be fantastic guides...where there are Loons there is water so a lot of this piece will contain watery patterns and associations.
Wheddon Cross had it's first Snowdrop Valley Craft Fair in the new Auction House. Vivid Dove did well for a small event...some sales and a number of commissions, including a set of key rings for Little Quarme Cottages, 26 bespoke Angel Cards for a spring wedding and a new house sign!
In preparation for The Snowdrop Valley event here at Wheddon Cross I have been busy with the snowdrop theme....keyrings, candleholders, bookmarks and more. They are lovely flowers to put onto wood (mainly English Sycamore) as their lines are simple and beautiful.
I have received my first delivery of sycamore pieces - keyrings and candle holders. They are the most beautiful wood to work with, a lovely light, sometimes silvery background for my pyrography. Christmas is upon us so I thought it apt to make a 'Holly & Ivy' pair of tealight holders. My future designs will include animals and esoteric symbols for those looking for lovely animal energy and good ju-ju with their light!
Today I have just received my first small delivery of wooden boxes (trinket/ciger/small storage) all in their raw basic state waiting for pyrography. I am starting my first design now...a horse trinket box. I hasten to add these are from a Dutch company in the Netherlands so are not locally sourced. I have just ordered some shaped Sycamore blanks from a little company I have found in the Yorkshire Dales, so I am hoping they will be perfect for me to buy more from in the future.

10% of each piece sold goes this small group in Italy: Michele Minunno is a trainee Vet and Dog Trainer in southern Italy. He has lived alongside stray and feral dogs all his life and his approach to his work is greatly influenced by his experiences with these dogs. He runs communication groups with the help of ' Teaching Dogs', two of his own dogs being his main Teachers. Both of these dogs were abandoned before they met Michele, and have proved to have the most amazing teaching skills. Michele has studied groups of dogs (and the difference between the various group structures and dynamics) that reside at the Veterinary University close to where he lives. He continues to watch and care for them daily, and in so doing he is also learning from the best teachers of all – the dogs themselves. With a few friends, he now dedicates his spare time to caring for and rehoming some of these dogs. Not all of them can cope with living in a domestic environment and the dogs that cannot be rehomed are watched over by Michele and his dedicated team of friends on a daily basis. All costs are covered by Michele and his friends. They have named their team "CANI LIBERI" . The Deer have paused for a moment as an opportunity has arisen to sell a number of smaller pieces, and support a very worthy cause, at an event this weekend. I have produced a variety of dog, wolf, heart, horse and hand designs on 3" & 4"Ash rounds (or slices). They just need their wood treatment and will be ready to go....please check back tomorrow to see pictures of the finished articles!
10% of sales will be going to support the care and rehoming of stray dogs under the care of Michele Minunno and his dedicated team "Cani Liberi" in Southern Italy. New Piece in the making...on 4ft X 7.5" Tiger Oak
I have decided to begin my "Exmoor Series" with a deer scene on a free standing piece of wood. So far the stag has made an appearance and a series of running hinds are deciding upon their positions behind him. Please check back soon if you'd like to follow their progress.... |
